Puerto Viejo!

CrAzY wEeKeNd!!!
Hello all! So this past weekend was pretty interesting... I feel like i'm being tested on how far I can push my limits! To start, a group of 20 of us, left Heredia and got on the bus to San Jose at 12:00 pm and arrived at 12:30pm. We waited in San Jose at the CocaCola station for our bus which was to depart at 2:00pm... bus tickets were about 10 dollars. We arrived in Puerto Viejo about 6:45 pm so it was dark by then. We were pointed into the direction that we needed to go for our hostel... or hammock hut. On the way there, we ran into the local high entertainment (Felix) at our hostel "Rockin J's" He led us the rest of the way... he was kind of weird. We got there and this place was not the quiet relaxing atmosphere I hoped for! It was 24 hour drink and get high fest... for some. We got all checked in (about $5 a night in a hammock) and put out things in our lockers. Then we left the party house to go find some food. I really wanted Mexican food! No, just because people from Costa Rica speak Spanish, does not mean that they have tacos, enchiladas, and CHIPS AND SALSA. All I wanted was some chips and salsa. We saw a place called "Las Carnitas" and someone said, oh thats mexican! Well, just because it is written in Spanish, does not mean its Mexican either. I ordered the Fajitas, which I thought would be Mexican or similar but no, it was fajita style chicken with the worlds saltiest vegetables, but still pretty good. That was an $8 dinner. I started wondering where my money was going! After dinner we returned to Rockin J's. We sat on the beach and then went to a bonfire. I bought a couple drinks for Linsey and I and then Linsey was so convinced that her's did not have as much alcohol in it as mine did so she had to mix our drinks to make hers more potent... I guess I'm just used to more alcohol in my drinks, my family apparently makes them right. Anyway, we sat around the bonfire and watched Felix (the very high guy who was not all there) play his guitar and the drums... he is one interesting guy. Afterwards I decided to go to sleep... wait what is sleep again? I sat in my hammock somewhat confortable just listening to the sound of rain trickle on the roof top... this would be a pleasant experience if at 12 am there weren't drunk people talking incessantly and loud music playing on the beach. However, I started to zone out. I'm thinking at about 2am two guys from my group started having a discussion. One was saying how he wanted a prostitute so bad that he would consider even paying for one. The other was confused and stated that he would understand him if he was a 45 year old man, but being that he was 20, that was a little weird. The conversation was pretty interesting but was interrupted by two very loud girls who were either from Europe or Australia.  Their conversation was very intriguing! First they discussed how much alcohol they had each consumed... it was about 10 shots each. Then they started discussing their one night stands and how they went. One girl said "Oh yeah, he was like 20, and he had a kid who was 5 and I was like wow, when I was 15 I was definitely not having kids! hahahahahaha but yeah, he looked like he would be good, but he wasn't, and when he started touching me down there-" At this point, I prayed that God would help me fall asleep, and he did! Wow, I'm glad that these girls felt the need to tell about 50 other people that they are basically sluts. I really don't understand why the USA gets such a bad rap, we were the most well behaved in this place. The thing that surprised me most about Rockin J's is that older people came here and spent the night (Don't they have enough money to go somewhere a bit more classy) Also, people brought their children here (Who on earth would bring a child to a place where people are drinking all hours of the day and doing drugs?) I guess i'm just lucky to have such wonderful parents that expect better for their lives as well as mine.
The next morning, I woke up at 5:30am to people just coming in from the night before. We decide we are going to go find some breakfast at a local favorite place, "Bread and Chocolate" As i'm leaving the hostel I see Felix drinking a beer. Well alright. So anyway, it was raining and we walked into town. Many know, i'm not the happiest person in the morning, unless i'm working at Chick-fil-A because being perky to grumpy people is kind of fun. So feeling rain at that hour was not so great. But nevertheless, we got to the breakfast place and Linsey and I split a sunshine of pancakes ($4) . I also had my first french press, now I want to buy one, it was so deliciously smooth. After breakfast, we went and bought our bus tickets home (another $10) Then we rented bikes ($4 group rate yay). We biked to a beach that was about 30 minutes away. The bike ride was not so difficult, dodging potholes and cars that run you over, that was the hard part. The beach we went to was called Playa de Uva. Beach of grapes... Anyway, the sand there was an interesting mix of black and tan. It was overcast but still pretty nice. It was great but 30 minutes later it started raining a little. This seemed to be the situation that day, a little rain, and a little sun. We returned to Rockin J's and decided to take showers because sand was everywhere! As I was taking a shower and drying off, people must not know how to knock but someone started opening the door at which point I realized the lock didn't work and I screamed. They walked away. It felt so refreshing to take a shower! After that, we walked into the town and bought some lunch. I bought some peanut butter, and apple, a banana, and some ritz like crackers ($7) so that they would last me a while. After eating, I went in my little hammock and drew some pictures. I stayed there until it was time to get some dinner. We bought "street meat" literally meat that is cooked in the street. Then we went and bought some organic ice cream and delicious waffle cones. Everyone remarked on how amazing the waffle cones were, to me they were just as good as Carvel. We returned to Rockin J's to what seemed like would be a more relaxing night. Thankfully, it was. We sat around and talked about who knows what and just chilled. I got a phone call from Michael who got a google voice number so that he could talk to me for 6 cents a minute! Much better than the $3 a minute Verizon charges. After talking to Michael, I felt happy and then stayed up and talked to Linsey for a while. We went to sleep and it was a beter night of rest. I woke up at 7am and went to get breakfast at bread and chocolate again. This time, I got an everything bagel and bought a Lemon Poppyseed muffin for the road. I love Lemon Poppyseed muffins! Most people took the 7:30am bus but a small group of us took the 9am bus. The bus driver was kind of crazy and drove really fast over and around potholes which made me sick. Finally, at 1pm we arrived back in San Jose and then caught the TIBAS (a bus) to get back into Heredia. I was so happy to get back to my host families home and took an amazing shower and then rested for the rest of the day. What a weekend
